Dorozhnoye Radio Lakhdenpokh'ya 104.50

When driving back from summer house I notice at Parikkala on 104.50 this new radio station. It is Dorozhnoye Radio from Lakhdenpokh'ya (in Finnish Lahdenpohja). Pictures taken from car radio display are very informative.

Some days ago I also heard Dorozhnoye Radio on 102.60. Transmitter was then Leppyasilta (again in Finnish Leppäsilta). So Dorozhnoye Radio is very common in Finland these days. They also have transmitters at Sankt Peterburg (87.50) and Petrozavodsk (107.20) and Peldozha (100.70) and many more.

It is always good to hear this kind of radio stations. They will do some change to little bit boring Finnish radios. I am not sure if they use playlist. Almost all Finnish station use lists so anyway lists are very different.

Only a tiny Es

Sporatic E or Es is FM-listener's most wanted mode. It has been very quit for last 2-3 weeks now. Yesterday there was small opening to Romania. Here it last about 15 minutes. Only station that I could solve (with my friends) was RR Actualitati on 91.40 MHz. Program was "80 de ani de muzica în 80 de ani de Radio". Names Gabriela Scraba and Gabriel Marica was later mentioned. Distance to transmitter is about 2076 km which is very typical Es-skip.

91.400 21.6. 0947- ROU: Radio Romania Actualitati. Turnu-Severin -tx

Radio Peili now on air

Radio Peili is now on air in easter Finland with their new high power transmitters. I can myself hear 100.40 Kiihtelysvaara and 103.20 Kerimäki both on RDS level. Also new for me are 90.80 Nilsiä, 100.70 Joutseno, 101.20 Vuokatti, 101.80 Mikkeli and 107.90 Iisalmi. Radio Peili has now total of 19 transmitters on air. Previously they have only six transmitters so 13 is new. And more to come from first of July. After the last batch Radio Peili will probably has over 30 transmitters and nationwide coverage all over Finland.

Upcoming new frequencies of high power transmitters in easter Finland will be 94.70, 104.90, 106.40 and 107.00. Transmitter locations for these frequencies are not yet known but I guess that they will be from existing sites.

And the last notice PI-code has changed to 6207.

Keks FM Sankt Peterburg

Just arrived to my summer house. It is located near Russian border so I can sometimes hear some foreign stations. Soon I notice on 91.10 new Russian station called Keks FM. I don't know if it use RDS or not because signal is maybe too weak for RDS. If I remember right last summer I heard Kanal Melodia on this frequency .

Another new station from Sankt Peterburg seems to be Radio Zenit. It is football club owned station. This one I heard already on 89.70 last year when it started.

The Spirit Of Radio

There are many songs dedicated to radio but this master piece from Canadian progressive hard rock band Rush is my absolute favorite. If never heard of them you can watch and listen it at YouTube in many versions but this one has nice slide show and lyrics included.

Second to remember is Irish folk pop group called Corrs and their live performance of unplugged listen to the radio.

So nice, maybe you want more attitude try Capital Radio from punk rock band The Clash.

The dance floor artists did't forget radio. Somehow best of bunch for me is Donna Summer and on the radio.

KLF summer radios

Although some heavy rain showers and low temperature here in Finland today the dance music station radio KLF have started summer radios. In Helsinki frequency is 100.00 MHz and I can easily receive it on RDS levels here in Järvenpää. RDS PS (station name) is simple [ KLF ] but PI code in use is bit strange [1111]. Usually PI-codes in Finland start with number 6.

Other frequencies in use are 93.80 (Turku) and 101.60 (Tampere). Temporary license allow transmissions from 1.6. to 31.8.2008. If you can't receive any of these they have Internet stream available.

Future of the FM-radio

Analog FM-radio has been great success over the last 2-3 decades. How it is going to survive in the future? Number of radio stations is still raising in eastern Europe. Last release of famous European FM handbook 2002-2003 edition was amazing 760 pages long when editors finally give up. Editors of FMLIST try to continue their work. You can get some idea about the number and coverage of FM-radio stations from this world map build from FMLIST database.

So what is the answer? DAB-radio has gain little success in some countries but for me it is obvious that the future for FM-radio will be great and we FM-radio hobbyist will have many years of joy with our listening hobby.
